Ghost-trains is a small group of individuals with a shared interest in the lost railway history of Brighton & Hove and the wider East Sussex area.

Our mission is to visit, photograph and document sites of lost railway installations and to provide as full a description of these places as possible. We use maps and photos of key points in the working history of a particular location and then use modern maps and photos to provide a comparison template of the same place in the present day.

Over the course of this project, we've found that a lot of the places we've found have been changed beyond all recognition by the relentless consumption of every scrap of disused land in Brighton & Hove. Where once there was a suburban haven of peace and tranquility, punctuated only by the shells of derelict buildings rising eerily out of the bushes here and there, now stand gleaming new buildings... often with a fraction of the character of what they replace.

Have you ever walked past one such place, paused and thought: "what were the buildings here before... and what were they used for?" Sadly it's often asked far too late, for the buildings have long gone, along with any memory of them.

This project tells their stories and lets the ghosts have their moment of glory once more.
