Ghost-of goes Social.

Posted by Lawrence Russell on Saturday, July 27, 2013, In : General
Ghost-of and Ghost-trains now have their own Facebook pages. I decided to do this some considerable time ago, as the changes that the websites are undergoing will reach a far greater audience via Facebook. Thanks to the wonders of Social Networking, the project as a whole is now getting around 2,500 visitors in a month, so it is no bad thing.

The pages are at:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/125086150979844/ for Ghost-trains

and

Fault finding update

Posted by Lawrence Russell on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, In : Fault finding
1. The Blog is hideously out of date and needs to be brought up to the minute. I've got to try and remember to put a heads-up on the blog when I do anything on here - it's just that there's so much to do and after large bouts of major geekery and programming, I usually forget to stick what I've been doing into the Blog page as well.

2. Future Projects is so far out of date it defies belief. Most of the stuff we were planning to do back then has been done plus several locations not even listed!...

General changes, new locations and Fault finding progress

Posted by Lawrence Russell on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, In : General
Yet again it looks like I haven't been on here for months, but there has been so much going on that I haven't been able to list it all in the blog!

2 New locations have been added, uploaded, photographed and commented on - Surbiton Hospital and the Shoreham Cement Works. They are both fantastic locations and I'm particularly happy with the photographs.

We have also been on this year's first railway trek - Shoreham to Steyning (Downslink) Railway. This ties in and will be linked to the report on...

New Stuff!

Posted by Lawrence Russell on Friday, December 3, 2010, In : New stuff
After another embarassingly long gap of almost 3 monts, it looks, again, as though I have been doing nothing! But, as usual, we know that's not true because a great deal of stuff has been going on behind the scenes and it's usually the case that after a late night compressing and stitching images and putting them in order in a folder and associated pages on here, I'm often barely able to keep my eyes open, let alone create a blog entry. So, now I have to play catch up!

Right! What have we been...

New Developments in General

Posted by Lawrence Russell on Friday, September 17, 2010, In : General
Now I know everyone thinks I've been sitting on me arse since June, but that's not happened! Things have been remarkably hectic here at ghost-trains. Here is a rundown of what's been going on:

I ran out of space on "ghost-of" at the end of July, so I bit the bullet and expanded the site domain, so we now have potentially 25 times as much storage space available!! That should keep us raving for a while...

A new "skin" has been purchased for "ghost-of" and I think the new brickwork look fits in b...

More treks appear on ghost-of

Posted by Lawrence Russell on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, In : ghost-of
We've been on some more treks! There have been 2 more to Hellingly and one to a completely new location: Runwell Hospital in Essex.

As a result, I have spent the last 3 weeks collating and sorting out Panoramas and sorting out and improving pictures from these treks, which is a complicated and highly time consuming process.

I have uploaded the images into 3 new folders in the File Manager, pending production of pages for these treks.

We in the ghost-of team have agreed that we will be returning ...

Some new developments! At last!

Posted by Lawrence Russell on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, In : New stuff
After a month or so of deglitching and messing around doing little bits and pieces, we got our heads together and got back out there! We have had 3 very successful treks this month: 2 to Hellingly Lunatic Asylum and one to West Park Lunatic Aylum. We were always a little unsure about going back out to Hellingly and West Park, because we had heard so much about the places being locked down, overly secure and numerous arrests made. However, we just couldn't help our curiosity and figured that, ...

New Stuff (no, I haven't been slacking for 3 months!!)

Posted by Lawrence Russell on Friday, October 9, 2009, In : Update for site building.
Despite the gap in the dates, there has been masses of stuff going on behind the scenes. Nearly there....

All of the pictures to be used on the page are now in their correct positions within the page.
Some more narrative and commentary have been added, so we are about 2 thirds there so far.

I still need to go through and check for spelling mistakes and typo's
The remaining photos need to be compressed in order to keep the page load-up speed as fast as possible.

I've got to go and do other things now, I've been on here far too long!

About the Project Coordinator

ghost aka: Loz Russell Ninja photographer, editor, web designer, programmer and the maniac who started all this off in the first place almost a decade ago! I just can't let this project slip because I feel so strongly about the complacency of the people of the UK in their need to destroy, remove and replace perfectly serviceable buildings (albeit with a little care and attention to detail). Most of these buildings could be pressed easily into alternative useage and easily modernised rather than replaced, such is the strength and longevity of Victorian Architecture. Where most of today's structures have a life of just 35 years at the very most, The Victorians considered that their creations were the last word in construction and would be there for a very long time to come. So, when they disappear or are threatened with removal as so many of the abandoned structures in this project are/were, it is nice to have some sort of record of them, hence the undeniable purpose of my crusade.
